Nainital is typically accessed via Kathgodam, the nearest railhead, with a further drive up into the hills. From Amritsar, the full journey (including the drive to the hills) generally takes a full day, so we plan arrival day as travel-focused rather than scheduling sightseeing immediately on arrival.
Mall Road can get genuinely crowded during peak season (May-June, and around major holidays), and our drivers know which parking and drop-off points work best to avoid the worst congestion near the lake.
If you have extra time, nearby hill towns like Bhimtal and Sattal offer quieter lake experiences than Nainital’s more touristy main lake, worth a half-day trip for travelers wanting a break from crowds.
Nainital and Mussoorie are sometimes combined into a single Uttarakhand hill-station trip, though the drive between them is long enough (8+ hours) that we’d generally suggest treating them as separate legs with a proper rest day rather than a direct back-to-back drive.
Mall Road’s cafes offer good views paired with average-to-good food; local Kumaoni cuisine is worth seeking out at smaller, less tourist-focused restaurants slightly off the main strip.
