Solang Valley
Rohtang + Atal Tunnel
Adventure Activities
Manali covers more range than most hill stations — adventure activities for the thrill-seekers, quieter valley walks for those who’d rather not, and a jumping-off point for genuinely high-altitude excursions like Rohtang Pass, all within a manageable base town.
For paragliding, zorbing, and (in winter) skiing.
A striking wooden temple set in a cedar forest.
Across the river for its cafes and relaxed backpacker atmosphere.
For those wanting to go higher into the mountains.
Rohtang Pass requires a permit and is subject to daily vehicle quotas and weather closures, typically accessible only in warmer months. The Atal Tunnel offers a more reliable, permit-free route through the mountain toward Lahaul Valley, increasingly popular as an alternative or addition. We check current access status before finalizing your itinerary and arrange permits where needed.
3-4 days works well for Manali itself, including Solang Valley and Old Manali, with an extra day if you’re adding Rohtang Pass or an excursion into Lahaul Valley via the Atal Tunnel.
March to June for pleasant weather and access to higher passes as snow clears. October to February for snow in Manali town itself and around Solang Valley, popular with visitors specifically wanting a snow experience without traveling to Kashmir or Ladakh.
Beyond Solang Valley’s paragliding and zorbing, Manali offers river rafting on the Beas River (seasonal), short treks around Jogini Falls, and mountain biking routes for more active travelers. Let us know your interests when booking so we can plan time accordingly.
Manali is roughly 9-10 hours by road from Amritsar. We typically suggest breaking this into a slightly more relaxed pace with a stop along the way, or planning for a full travel day without sightseeing squeezed in.
Old Manali, across the river, has a distinctly different vibe — smaller cafes, backpacker guesthouses, and a slower pace compared to the more commercial main town. Worth allocating at least an evening here even if you’re staying in the main town.
SUV transport (recommended for hill roads and any higher-altitude excursions), an experienced Manali-based driver, permit arrangement for Rohtang Pass where applicable, and hotel booking assistance.
